Iittala Artworks 2013

Iittala  / Helsinki, Finland

The collection includes 33 unique works that combine glass with other materials such as ceramics, acrylic, wood and concrete.

Having the opportunity to collaborate with Nuutajärvi glass factory, Lautenbacher´s process of designing the collection began with the properties of glass: its transparency, weight and hardness.

”Glass is a wondrous material,”

”And maybe that’s what led my imagination towards stories and fables. I started creating these ‘fable pots’ as part of a larger story. By creating sympathetic everyday objects like pots and mixing spoons out of glass, they become unusable. But at the same time I think they become unbelievably precious.”

The other half of the collection is comprised of blocks.

"The blocks are like a set of weights used to measure weight and value. What it’s meant to measure remains a mystery. There are some things that can’t be measured in true life.”
